"Knowing how to listen to achieve success"

Sandrine

Certified MAT Pilates Instructor

and Reform.

Coming from a family of athletes and passionate about sport since my very young age, it all began at the Paris Conservatoire of danse that I took my first steps at the age of 3 and a half. But following a health problem, I had to stop everything at the age of 11 and the only sport I could pursue where those at school.

The abandonment of my passion for classical dance was very difficult for me to accept, but it also allowed me to realize how essential sport was to my life as a child. Physical practice at school taught me a lot, such as well-being, joy, sharing, meeting people and especially for good health.

Throughout my adolescence, I continued to practice athletics, swimming, ice-skating and after all that effort, around the age of 20, my body changed. Gaining muscle, I was able to resume what I had always wanted: to dance. Then, I returned to an active life, and I practiced sport at the gym.

I came to live on the island of St Barthelemy around the age of 24. At the age of 30, the love for sport and the desire to teach led me to go on to become a trainer as a sports coach. But from my personal experience, I wanted to focus on a gentler method that is more suitable for all ages. It was during a discussion with a colleague that I would realize that Pilates was the direction I wanted to take my career.

I really appreciated the philosophy of Mr. Joseph Pilates, creator of this method, “bringing body and mind into one”. Also, the knowledge of one's own body. And if we want to go even further in performance, Pilates machines are best suited for this job. And so, it was in 2008 that I started my career as a private Pilates instructor giving lessons in hotels and villas.

In parallel with my work and my family life, I decided to take a master's degree in sophrology to bring an even more important look and to better understand my clients in my sessions of Pilates.

So, for 4 years I travelled between Guadeloupe and Andorra to study, and I graduated in 2019 in Barcelona.

Since then, I coach an increasingly diverse clientele, always in villas or in hotels, whether individually or in small groups, and I am still as passionate about meeting new people and by the well-being that I can bring to all the people who trust me in my work and profession

Who is Joseph Pilates ?

German-born Joseph Pilates was living in England and working as a circus performer and boxer when he was placed in forced internment in England at the outbreak of World War I.

While in the internment camp, he began to develop the floor exercises that evolved into what we now know as Pilates mat work.

As time went by, Joseph Pilates began rehabilitating detainees who were suffering from diseases and injuries. It was invention born of necessity that inspired him to utilize items that were available to him, like bed springs and beer keg rings, to create resistance exercise equipment for his patients.

These were the unlikely beginnings of the equipment we use today, like the reformer and the magic circle

He moved to the United States in the 1920 with his wife Clara
Pilates. It was there, in New York, that Joseph and Clara Pilates
founded the first Pilates Studio.

"The art of control proves that the only indicator of your real age is not your years nor how you think you trail, but how you go actually, as infallibly revealed the degree of natural and normal flexibility of your spine in your lifetime. If your column is completely stiff at 30, you are old; if it is perfectly flexible at age 60, you are young. »

“Mental and physical balance, not mind or body but mind and body”
